Common Terminology

Here is a list of common terminology you may run into. (Updated often)

  • HODL: Hold! Don’t sell.
  • FUD: Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt.
  • FOMO: Fear of Missing Out.
  • DYOR: Do Your Own Research.
  • Panic Sell: Selling out of emotion due to rapidly declining prices.
  • Weak Hands: People who are easily influenced to sell.
  • Whales:  Individuals or groups who hold vast quantities of cryptocurrency.
  • ATH: All Time High
  • Buy The Dip:  Purchasing coins following a decline in prices. “Also BTFD.”
  • Buy Walls: When buy orders are placed that exceed sell orders.
  • Sell Walls: When sell orders are placed that exceed buy orders.
  • Coins: A unit of value that exists on its own blockchain.(Bitcoin, Ethereum,etc)
  • Tokens: A unit of value that was built on other platforms. Does not exist on its own blockchain.
  • ICO: Initial Coin Offering
  • Bull Market: A market in which coin prices are rising, encouraging buying. Also “Bullish.”
  • Bear Market: A market in which prices are falling, encouraging selling. Also “Bearish.”
  • SB: Strong Buy
  • LT: Long Term
  • ST: Short Term
